Welcome 2013!!!

Well, I haven't posted in forever, but I recently finished a new quilt, and that has inspired me, so hopefully I'll be doing much more sewing this year! I made a quilt for my husband for Christmas, and finished it just in the nick of time!

Of course, our puppy Figgy had to get in the shot too! I followed AmandaJean/Crazymomquilts

tutorial for the Flea Market Fancy Quilt

And here is a close up shot: Miles Quilt - 2
I used a brown flannel for the backing and used left over scraps to piece the binding. I cut waaaaaayyy to many strips for the binding, so I am trying to find a strip quilt project to use them for!! And then after Christmas, I was still in a sewing mood, so I started to make some wonky log cabin blocks for a new quilted tree skirt.

More Quilts!

OK, haven't posted in forever. My bad. However, I have been a wee bit productive lately.

First, I have two more rag quilts completed. These were finished at the end of winter. One for each of my oldest two daughters. And my youngest has her order in, we've chosen fabric and I need to get it started. Here is the 3rd one I worked on, in blues/greens/aqua for my oldest daughter:

And here is the last one I did, or rag quilt #4. This was for my middle daughter in pinks and greens, mostly Amy Butler fabric:

Also, completed my first REAL pieced quilt. I followed AmandaJean's Ragged Squares Quilt pattern from her Crazymom Quilts blog and it was a lot of fun. Scary, but fun!!! Lots of Monaluna Mingle fabric in this quilt and I just finished it last week.

And last, I've started a Downy's Quilts for Kids quilt. It's a cute dinosaur theme. If you haven't heard of this charity, do check it out. They send you a whole kit of pre-cut fabric to make a small quilt for a sick child. You just need to provide the batting. They ask that you create a quilt of your own as well, but I don't think that is required. Pictures coming soon for the dinosaur quilt!

The first two rag quilts I've made

Here are photos of the first two rag quilts I've made. The first one I made using flannel squares on both the back and front with batting in the middle. It is rather small, probably close to crib size. I consider it my learning version, although I made it to match my youngest DD's room, so she can use it for all her stuffed animal critters. I made this over Christmas break 2008.

The second quilt I made I made for me, in colors I liked. The back is a chocolate brown flannel, and this time I used cotton fabric squares for the front with batting in the middle. We need to redo our master bedroom, and I'm hoping to follow the color pallet in this quilt. I made this quilt last fall after the kids started school, in 2009.

My first post on a new blog for the new year!

Well, I decided I needed to start a new blog to keep track of my sewing & crafting endeavors. I've only been sewing for maybe a year now, and have made a couple of rag quilts, so I'm no expert as far as sewing goes. But I would like to learn more, and sew more, and thought I could use this blog as a tool to keep track of projects and share them. I would love to be able to make some traditional quilts, and that is my goal.

My middle DD is 10, and this is her 3rd year in the Sewing program in 4-H. My youngest DD also joined last year, so this is now her second year in the program. I have learned alongside them and using the internet. My mom did try and teach me many times as a kid how to sew, but I was a tomboy and had no interest then.

So there you go. I will try and post pic's of the few projects I have made, and maybe those the girls have made as well. So check back soon! Also, If you are new to sewing, I have posted some great learn to sew books on Amazon below.
